Have to and Want to and Neuroplasticity

Have to and Want to and Neuroplasticity

So imagine this… I started writing this short blog article and guess what happened along the way:

Relentless honesty with ourselves is always the key! And after that, the courage to face whatever arises in our human existence! And radically accept it! Immediately steer the mind in a healthy direction, and then toward wholeness. 🙂

This morning, while preparing our porridge in the kitchen, slicing apples, Harald asked me:

“Darling, don’t you often feel like it’s exhausting that there’s always something to take care of? Like going to the dentist, sorting out the car, ordering firewood for the winter, etc.?”

Ahh, of course, I feel like that! I suppose it’s partly because we’re getting older, and winter is approaching, so we just want to cozy up by the stove… but the feeling is there.

Then I shared with Harald something I’ve been applying to my daily life recently, which I learned from my favorite chakra teacher…

When you feel overwhelmed by the inner monologue of “I HAVE to,” turn it around and say: “I WANT to go to the dentist, because by doing so, I’m preventing my teeth from getting worse. I want to take care of the car inspection, so we can drive everywhere. I want to order firewood, because I love chopping it, lighting the stove, and reading by the fire in winter.”

When we say “I want to” instead of “I have to,” we take the power back into our hands.

I choose to do these things because I want to feel good, because I love my teeth, for example…

This is actually the essence of the 3rd chakra, the solar plexus: “I want it, and I don’t place the power outside of myself, but rather take it back into my hands.” This also connects to our September talk about having a strong mind.

Now, as I’m writing this, one of the young professors from the university came into my office. We often talk about consciousness, illusion, and what he’s experienced in his meditations. (Oh, how lucky I am to know him, what synchronicity!) He often laughs freely about the battles of university hierarchy. He’s a very conscious, sensitive, and awakened colleague.

I shared with him what I wrote above about the “Have to” and “Want to.” And he backed it up with scientific research! He’s studied many books (we’re in the English department) from neuroscientists. And in the book he quoted, it was proven with MRI that when you change your attitude to a situation, as I did above, by saying a different linguistic phrase, it immediately builds a new neural pathway in the brain, and it affects the whole body.

And he went even further and laughingly said: “Anyway, it’s all about perception: we think there’s a self and a dentist, but in reality, this object we call ‘dentist’ doesn’t even exist. :))))”

Amazing! Haaaa, non-duality walks into my office in the form of a professor, hahaha.

And it wasn’t just words: I could feel that he’s already seen through everything, realizing that everything is nothing, and nothing is everything.

So there you have it, enjoy reading it. This is what ended up in today’s article.
